Communications from inside a vehicle pose a serious hurdle
for both users and equipment integrators. The noise from
engines, other conversations, and even gunfire make it difficult
to hear an incoming radio signal. Plus, when there are various
signals received simultaneously, chances are that they won’t
be heard clearly, and that personnel won’t react effectively. In
some cases, ambient noise inadvertently activates VOX (voice
operated switch) microphones, which blocks the channels that
they are using and makes for an even more confusing
