Helicopter Communications

The military helicopter operating environment provides unique
challenges for operators due to the high ambient noise
environment. Engine, drive-train noise, and rotor wash,
coupled with vibration levels hinder the performance of
communications systems, especially when multiple audio
sources are received simultaneously.

To deal with this situation, Orbit’s helicopter audio
management solution integrates advanced noise filtering with
3D audio that provides a customized audio presentation to
each operator.

The 3D audio function separates simultaneous incoming radio
transmissions into separate and distinct signals that are
positioned around the pilot’s/aircrew’s head making it much
easier for the aircrew to understand. Coupled with active noise
reduction and active noise cancellation, the AMS provides
operators with an audio presentation that enhances mission
effectiveness through superior audio fidelity and quality while
reducing background noise. In addition, our stabilized airborne
SATCOM solutions enable data and voice communication, even
in the cramped and high-temperature conditions of helicopter
airframes. Both technologies occupy minimal space, provide
reliable data feeds and crystal-clear audio, and are adaptable
to a variety of helicopter types such as the CH-53 and Mil 8.
